This is the ultimate cover letter trick 👇 Do something that stimulates passion *before* you start writing. This way, the passion translates naturally. For example, Wildlife Crime Scientist Monique Sosnowski turns on wildlife conservation, or wildlife crime-related, documentaries to help her get excited about her field. She says when she turns back to her laptop, she “feels that passion come through onto the page.” Try this and let us know how it goes in the comments. Drop your cover letter writing tips in the comments too. Watch the full episode of #Catalyst: https://lnkd.in/gtCYXjSB

“Growing up, our focus was to assimilate and be like all Americans.” As Jennifer Liao and her MìLà co-founder built their soup dumplings company, she says they did a lot of introspection on what their culture meant to them. “It has been amazing to be able to reflect on our journey and embrace who we are as individuals.” Founded during the pandemic, Liao grew up eating soup dumplings and says many people consider them “a treat.” She said she loves that now, they can be enjoyed at home with friends and family. “There are Chinese customers. They get to recapture the nostalgia of what they had from their hometown,” she says. “There are people who have never had Chinese food and they are able to try our food.” She has a very tasty goal: Share soup dumplings with as many people as possible. Are workers having a harder time keeping their careers on track right now? American workers are feeling less confident in their careers than they have in years, according to LinkedIn’s latest Workforce Confidence survey. Workers’ confidence in their ability to progress in their careers over the next year has dropped by six points since April 2023 (to +25, on a scale from -100 to +100). That’s the lowest level it’s reached since the survey began in spring of 2020, when the pandemic caused unprecedented shifts in the workplace, and workers’ average career confidence score was +28. Overall worker confidence has also dipped back down to spring 2020 levels (+29), and is also down six points since April 2023. These sentiments are unsurprising, considering 40% of U.S. workers said they are feeling burned out and “stuck” at their jobs in another recent Workforce Confidence finding. They may also reflect pessimism over widely-reported layoffs and fears that newer technologies like generative AI could change or eliminate certain jobs. Do these findings line up with what you’d expect? What steps are you taking to keep your career progressing right now? ✍️: Rachel Cromidas 📊: Allie Lewis, Bud Rashidian

For 2024 grads and interns jumping into the workforce, speaking up in a meeting or in front of a group can be an uncomfortable experience. To keep yourself and an audience on track, presentation expert Lorraine K. Lee recommends two key steps: 1.) Tell them what you’re going to say and 2.) Recap what you said. Clueing your audience into what’s ahead will help them understand what to expect, she says, and recapping your core points can “reinforce” what you want people to remember — and help you land major points. What are your top tips for an effective presentation? Weigh in below. And check out the 2024 Guide to Kickstarting Your Career here: https://lnkd.in/2024careerstartersguide. #GetStarted
