The New York Times reported Wednesday, July 3, 2013 (13.07.03) that Adobe will only rent Photoshop CC (the photoshop-related image, video, and site building products) in the future. These products will no longer be for sale and licensed to be owned and uses by the purchaser as they see fit. Worse, it will cost the consumer more to rent and use Adobe software than if they were to purchase it and upgrade it every few years. In short: what you do as an Internet content producer which requires Adobe software to produce will now be under the control of Adobe and the rental prices Adobe marketing people decide to set. Microsoft has both rental software and software for purchase, but clearly could switch to rental only at any time. Conclusion this is the richest software companies, like the US biggest banks and financial house which caused the Financial Crisis of 2008 and the Great Recession which continues at this writing, to have more power over who uses their software, for what purposes, and at what costs to the individual and organization consumers. No one voted for this arrangement. No one currently can vote to stop it.
