WebLearningTools Research personnel, contractors, and volunteer designers and developers will be selected according to your project's requirements.  We will then plan, build, develop and extend the features of your "web 2.0" educational web site.  We will create a web site design and prototype your web site in stages as required for "us" and any in-house team you have to achieve your educational objectives on your final well-tested "live" public or internal educational web site.

As part of a "client's request for information and estimate" service, an "education web site requirements" form for the prospective client to fill out and submit will be available here "soon".

For the record you the potential WLTRes client should know that "web 2.0" site planning and prototype building is not as trivial as some "CMS evangelists" and site developers may want you to believe.  Minimally site planning and building requires both a broad and adeep understanding of the CMS and of the usually very large number of free and commercial "extensions" available for the particular CMS.

Web 2.0 web sites are "fat" in the sense that there is a lot of extra "code" on the server side which makes the web pages your instructors and students see as part of their "ed web site experience".  Minimally that extra code on the server needs to be "optimized" in various ways so that client's prototype and live web site performance is the best it can be for the least cost to the client educator or institution.

Minimally a "web 2.0" web site built with just the free unchanged extensions available at the time of development may achieve 80% of the client's feature and services requirements!  Getting to 90% or 100% of those educational objectives may take considerable extra time and effort on the part of the site builders and code developers!

CMSes for Educational Web Site Development

WebLearningTools Research (WLTRes) personnel (right now just me, the PI: JGW) and WLTRes sub-contractors can perform Educational Web Site Development for the client on a sliding hourly or per-task or per-project fee to be determined.

"We" will do so using any of the following FOUR (4) "web 2.0" Content Management Systems (CMS):

  • Joomla! v1.5  4x4x3
  • Drupal v6  4x3x2
  • Wordpress v2  5x3x3
  • Moodle v1.9  4x2x2

My (JGW's) knowledge level, extension selection and configuration skill level, and extension-modification and creation skill levels I self-rate on a triple (or 'triplet' or 'three-tuple') 0-5 scale as in "5x5x4":

Key to the Tentative Rating System:

CMS System Knowledge Level: 0 = none, 1 = can define terms and concepts, 2 = xxxx, 3 = xxxx, 4 = expert, 5 = has expert understanding, knowledge and skill sets and can teach the subject.

CMS Extension Selection, Configuration, Inter-relationship Optimization Level: 0 = none, 1 = developer (I) can install, have the site up and running in an hour or less..., 2 = xxxx, 3 = xxxx, 4 = expert, 5 = expert and can train others to have the same knowledge and skill levels in 1+ sub-domain of this work area.

CMS Extension Code and DB Schema Modifications and Creation: 0 = none, 1 = xxxx, 2 = xxxx, 3 = xxxx, 4 = expert, 5 = expert unit, sub-system, and system coder and can train others in these areas.

Later "we" at WLTRes will have this "triplet" rating system for each WLTRes employee, contractor, and volunteer developer.
