Clearly the cell phones and smart phones with web cameras in them can be used to take digital photographs of educational materials.
Similarly the inexpensive digital cameras with a zoom lens can do the same.
For better results use a tripod and a "shutter release" cable to trigger your camera-phone to take a picture.
